🔱 Temple Significance

Vaidyanathar Temple is an ancient Shiva temple where Lord Shiva is worshipped as Vaidyanathar, the divine healer. Goddess Thaiyalnayaki is the consort. The temple is also famous as the Angaraka (Mars) Navagraha Sthalam and is traditionally associated with healing and health-related prayers.

🏛 Temple History

The temple has a long history and contains inscriptions associated with different periods of Tamil history. The present complex received contributions and renovations under Chola, Pandya, Nayak and Maratha rulers. The temple has five-tiered gopurams and several important shrines, including Thaiyalnayaki, Dhanvantari and Muthukumaraswamy.
