(Oppiliappan Koil) Thiruvinnagar Oppiliappan Koil is one of the most sacred 108 Divya Desams dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The temple has a rich spiritual history rooted in ancient Hindu tradition and Vaishnavite belief. According to temple legend, the great sage Markandeya performed severe penance at this place, praying that Goddess Lakshmi should be born as his daughter. Pleased with his devotion, Goddess Lakshmi appeared as a baby girl under a sacred Tulasi plant, and the sage raised her as his own daughter, naming her Bhumi Devi.
